average life span of a sport bike is 6 months or 10k miles. either abusing the drive train, theft, or accident so this one being a 98 i would check it out really well. do a compression and leakdown test on the engine and maybe even ask for service records/ also know that people tend to shift these bikes hard without using the clutch. doing this leads to transmission problems including damaged gears shifter forks, of shift drums. all very costly repairs.
