Default should a yz125 have more than one gear?

I just got a yamaha yz125 and ive never really ridden dirtbikes before so i dont know much about them but i thought they had different gears you shift through, but this bike just seems to have one long gear. its fast and seems like it doesent need anymore gears but im not shure. is there something wrong with it or should it be like that? its a 1998 which i beleve is about the same through 2001

clutch is on the left and the lever by your left foot is how you shift the 1 down and 4 up pattern. Know someone who rides any bikes? ask them for help. ------
