can you put a honda shadow muffler on a 1978 gs550?

my bikes not worth buying a new muffler and i cant find a used one but i find alot ofmufflers from other bikes for sale really cheap can i cut up the exhaust and weld a normal muffler on it?also would there be problems with putting mufflers from a 1000cc twincyclinder on a 550cc four cylinder?
