Default '82 Kawasaki AR80 - Locking gas cap stuck on!

I am restoring a very nice and low mileage AR80. It has a great tank, the only problem is I can not get off the locking gas cap! It is not the key, it works. I think is is varnish or something from 15 or so years of sitting with gas in tank, as the locking mechanisms will not release.

Any ideas? I do not want to damage tank. I have already drained from bottom. I am not worried about keeping cap. I have jammed a screw driver in and can turn completely. I do not want to damage the tank..

ANy help would be great!!!

Yes, still have the AR80. I actually have a few. I have a 600 mile original all cleaned up and gone through and now going through this one which only has 1500 miles. I fire each one up about everyother weekend. I ended up going to Locksmith who had to cut it out from the center. He said it took a while. He charged $50, but it is off and did no damage to tank.

you're not the first to think of this, it's submitted all the time to Y!.

but if you want to add your voice, go into your league, click on Help on the top right and email customer care.

they won't, but you can still make the request.

This method over many years and recommend that you do not assume the trouble is a certain part, as a problem in one area will often show up as a symptom somewhere else. An example is carb malfunctions are often incorrectly assumed to be governor problems.
