Default 82 yamaha maxim 400 timing belt?

Good Day,

Now that the good weather is upon us, betsy and I went for our first ride today seeing as how we have only spent time together in the garage here and there the last little while.

All was fine at the end of season last year. changed the oil, filters usual spring time stuff on the weekend knowing full well i would be on her in no time.

Well to my dismay, everything was fine till the ride home ( luckily ) about 1 km from home, made a turn, acceled and then wham... no power what so ever, coasted to a stop.

even with the slightest throttle she doent want to go ...

Could i have snapped the timing belt ( chain ) and if so, what damage could i have done?

Thanks

I highly doubt it. If you broke the timing chain, it would have sounded like a bomb went off in your motor! You said it won't go with the slightest throttle, so does that mean it's still running??

Si

Thanks for the reply,

No it didn't make a bomb like sound, i don't recall any sounds at all come to think of it....

but on the brighter side of things...

dropped the bike off at the shop around work here.

i was told it did indeed need a belt, but the labour was going to be a killer.

ofcourse this was all via voice mail and limited at that, and now we are playing voice mail tag.

i was talking to one of the guys at the shop, he told me to save a few bucks and do it myself.

so it can't be that bad off...i was just worried about having a rod or valve or something damaged...

i will know more later today on the way home.

Is it still running, even if just at idle?
