Default 90 vx800 starter replacement?

Hi folks,
I've got a 1990 Suzuki VX800 that was in storage for 2 years. I've been trying to get it road worthy again, and starting it is the issue. Luckily it was stored with out gas in the tank, but it looks like the starter is dead. My question is this:

Is there enough clearance to remove the starter without out taking the engine apart? It's easy enough to get to the panel that covers it, and there's a coolant pipe in the way that only has 3 bolts holding it on. Will the starter come out of that hole once those obstacles are out of the way?
