Default Completion cards and insurance

I was wondering how much of a discount if any one can expect from showing the insurance company that you have taken the BRC class

Probably different in different parts of the country. Call around and ask your local agents.

It can vary a lot from company to company, too.

I just bought a decent policy with progressive for $339/year, and that's for a 26 y.o. new rider with no accidents or moving violations on a new bike. A not-quite-as-good-but-still-ok policy with geico would have cost me over $700!

I guess geico just doesn't really want to sell insurance.

Or maybe progressive just isn't as willing to pay out in case of an incident.

Let's hope I don't find out! :D

Call different insurance companies, first ask them you want the insurance and give them the bike details (VIN is imp here). They will ask you all kind of questions and one of them will be "Do you have a MSF course card" tell them yes.. and than ask them how much it costs without it.

Well i got a good deal from AllState, its 100 dollar deductible and total is 386/year.

its very imp that you ask the details before buying the insurance. All insurance companies will give you a quote of 1000 dollar deductible and when you look at the year end price you will think its cheap .. but NO .. its cheap only coz the deductible is higher.

Following are rough rates depending on the deductible :

1000 dollar --> 225/year
500 dollar --> 304/year
100 dollar --> 386/year

again the values are approximate. if you are a new biker than you should go with a 100 dollar deductible.. that way even if you scratch your bike .. you can pay the 100 from your pocket and have your insurance pay the rest... but what if you have a 1000 dollar deductible ?? than its you who have to pay all..

hope this helps.

Happy riding.

Why Cann..., of course it costs you more--unless you're a caveman.

I find that cowboy boots help out here. Work even better when on horse.

I disagree on the deductible thing, if you have a 500 or 1000 dollar deductible you might take better care of your bike because it would pain you more to wreck it.

A true bare bones policy would not even include coll/comp above what the state mandates... if you don't have a loan on the bike, nobody cares but you.

well accidents doesn't happen purposely.. :D:D depending on whether you have a 500 or a 1000 dollar deductible.. they just happen. But when they happen you might end up paying less if you have less deductible. On the other hand if you have 1000 dollar deductible.. you would not engage the insurance if you have a 500 dollar damage on your bike. :D:D

Here's a link from the Geico website that lists discounts they offer.
10% discount for completing the MSF course
