Default Buy American . . . Buy Buell

Back in 1979, in the aftermath of the Iranian embassy fiasco, the birth of Ted Koppel and Nightline, and the United States embroiled in an Oil Crisis with gasoline breaking the $1.00 per gallon for the first time in history . . . President Carter came on the TV for a fireside chat. He said Americans were going to have to tighten their belts. He also admonished all Americans to "Buy American."

With the coming of one of America's greatest Presidents, Ronald Reagan, the patriotic "Buy American" mantra skyrocketed, along with the U.S. economy, bringing the big 3 car manufactureres out of the doldrums, and Chrysler in particualr, back from the brink of bankruptcy.

The Japanese created clearly superior cars to those of the U.S. but Americans continued to buy American, and the economy grew.

Now, 25 years later, we need to once again . . . "Buy American" . . . and Buy Buell. Here is an original American sportbike manufacturer with a quality product and an affordable price. Regardless of what the Japanese or Europeans are putting out there, we need to support America and buy these motorcycles.

I have come to the conclusion I am going to do my part, and buy a new XB12R this December, for Christmas, just as soon as I complete my job on a new gas pipeline . . . thank you Lord for the work!

When you buy Buell you are helping to support American families, instead of sending your hard earned money over seas to a bunch of ungrateful foreigners.

Ungrateful foreigners? You mean the ones who make a lot of Harley/Buell parts? The ones who helped design the new V-Rod engine?

this nation was founded on capitalism (well kinda) and i'm not forgetting it. the best product for the lowest cost gets my money. Buell doesn't fall into that category for me. no thanks.

Also, Honda and Suzuki both have plants in the U.S., maybe more Japanese manufacturers do, i'm not sure.

When we can build vehicles with the same high standard of quality and reliability as the Japanese, then I will definitely buy American.

Besides, these days, in most cases, if you buy a "Japanese" car its still built in the USA, so that 'buy American' argument is no longer relevant.

The use of the word "quality product" in reference to Buell motorcycles is open to debate. I love the way they look but I am not willing to part 10k for a motorcycle that has not proven itself mechanically or performance wise. I know that the Buell produces motorcycles that are much more talented than me, but they should price them accordingly in comparision with the Japanese machines. This is pretty much the same reason that I will never buy a ducati, even though their machines are proven performers. I wish some American company would take the bull by the horns (Polaris maybe?) and just put the $$$ into creating a serious US of A supersport. That would be sweet, but until then, I'm buying the most with what money I have.

Buell is no more American then Honda. They brag about the Italian frame and lights, they brag about the Japanese brakes and suspension. Add all the other parts made in Korea and such, and you have an over price, under performing, quirky, and possible unreliable motorcycle that is 90% foriegn, instead of 89% foriegn.

We live in a global economy now, time to realize that. Buying a Buell makes you no more American then buying a Camaro. Of course, the Camaro is built in Canada...

Don't buy American, just buy. The more stuff you buy, the better the economy. It doesn't matter what the tag says anymore.

....When you buy Buell you are helping to support American families, instead of sending your hard earned money over seas to a bunch of ungrateful foreigners. 1. Since Ronald Regan, the Japs are still making better cars. The moved much US production over here to evade importing tarriffs, so if you boycott jap cars, you put US workers out of a job.

2. The US cars only got better because they started having the parts made overseas and assembled in the USA. Lots of US-based companies went under. So, your "big 3" are still ricers.

3. Thanks to globalization, most of the US manufacturing jobs have been shifted overseas. Even if you want to "buy American," you can't. The label can say "made in the USA" if it's just assembled in this country. Heck, the labels can lie, and there isn't much of a punishment for that. :rolleyes

As someone said, I'm not paying $10K for a motorcycle....especially one that's not proved itself.
