The Suzuki GS1000S was made in 1979-1980. Then in 1981 it wasn't produced, only to come back in 1982 as the Suzuki GS1000S Katana.
History
The S model was a super sports variation of the standard GS1000, with a distinctive paint scheme and fairing. These Suzuki's were noted for their all round performance, a blend of good chassis and suspension and a powerful yet flexible motor.
History (Katana Version)
Suzuki has always had a reputation of building well-engineered, solid motorcycles, but in the early 1980s, they were a little bland in the styling department. They had a plan to build a motorcycle that stood out and drew attention like no other. The styling was contracted out to German designer Hans Muth, and the result was the Katana, and it created a sensation when it was first displayed. It was radical and attention getting, and set new standards in styling. A Katana is a Japanese Samurai sword.

The GS1000S was a replica machine of the Yoshimura-tuned GS1000 ridden by Wes Cooley, which won the 1978 AMA Superbike Championship. Although it shared the basic specifications of the GS1000E, the coloring and bikini cowl were identical to the victorious machine. The GS1000S was applauded for its comfortable riding position, and won popular acclaim as a supersport machine.
