Ok in checking which bikes use the same crankcase set.  I found the following
VN1500 A1-A13
VN1500 B1-B4
VN1500 C3-C4
The drive shaft is used on all of those as well.
I think your most likely to have problems with small things such as electronics etc.  I checked and the starter is also the same for all the A series Vulcan's.  But there are just so many parts that it's likely something is different.  I also checked the frame.  And it looks like it's the same for all but the VN1500-B1 and VN1500-A1.  So if you have a choice I'd shy away from those particular year models as something is definitely different even though it might not be on the engine at all.

I have a 1990 kawasaki vulcan 1500/88 , the motor /crank seized up. can I drop any of the 1500 a1- a13 series motors into this bike ? what year motors will bolt up to this frame and drive shaft.

any mechanical knowlege is appreciated.
