One of the biker groups that grew up in the American West in the late 1940s and 50s, which (together with the events at Hollister) pre-empted mass media coverage of 'motorcycle hooligans'. Harley-Davidson was careful to distance itself from the 'outlaw' culture though, ironically, its success is now based on a stylized, sanitized version of exactly that.
