The Yamaha XT 660 is a series of dual purpose on/off road [[Motorcycle|motorcycles]] released by [[Yamaha]] as a replacement for the old XT 600, a motorcycle very popular with the [[Off road|off-road]] and travelling crowd. 

It's an evolution of the original XT series ('X' stands for [[Four-stroke|4-stroke]], 'T' for monocylindric), a line of motorcycles inspired on those used on the [[Paris Dakar|Paris-Dakar]] rally, and designed to withstand extreme conditions of terrain while retaining features specific to urban use. 

It has a 660cc water cooled engine with 35 kilowatt, [[disk brake]]s on both wheels, [[Electronic fuel injection|electronic fuel injection]] and catalysators.

The '''[[Yamaha]] XT660Z''' was a single cylinder, [[four-stroke]] Trial [[motorcycle]] produced by [[Yamaha]] between 1994 and 2018. Max [[torque]] was 42.78 ft/lbs (58.0 Nm) @ 5920 RPM. Claimed [[horsepower]] was 46.0 HP (34.3 KW) @ 6000 RPM.  

==Engine==
The engine was a [[liquid cooled]] single cylinder, four-stroke. A 100.0mm [[bore]] x 84.0mm [[stroke]] result in a [[displacement]] of just 660.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a single overhead cams (sohc).  

==Drive==
The bike has a 5-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the wet, multiple-disc [[coil]] spring.  

==Chassis==
It came with a 90/90-21 front [[tire]] and a 130/80-17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via double disc. hydraulic in the front and a single disc. hydraulic in the rear. The front suspension was a  telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a linked monoshock with spring preload adjustment. The XT660Z was fitted with a 6.08 Gallon (23.00 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 363.76 pounds (165.0 Kg). The wheelbase was 59.06 inches (1500 mm) long.

My XT 660 R is a mixture of mainly new and a bit of old. The number 660 sounds familiar to some then its because in the 90` Yamaha has build a Super XT just for European market, with five valve, water-cooled engine. Both the Yamaha XT 660 R and Yamaha XT 660 X share a neat digital dash, smart plastics and the same monkey metal, easy-bend bars Yamaha fits to all its off-road bikes.

The Yamaha XT 660 X handles just fine on its gorgeous Excel rims, right up to about 145 Km (90 mph) when the bars start to weave. The Yamaha XT 660 X is less impressive, the brakes are especially woeful and probably some of the least convincing fitted to a road motorcycle.
