The Suzuki SP 500 was a Four stroke, single cylinder, SOHC, 4 valves Road motorcycle produced by Suzuki in 1981. Max torque was 30.98 ft/lbs (42.0 Nm) @ 5000 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 35.94 HP (26.8 KW) @ 6500 RPM.
Engine[edit | edit source]
A 88.9mm bore x 88.9mm stroke result in a displacement of just 498.0 cubic centimeters.
Drive[edit | edit source]
The bike has a 5-Speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet, multiplate.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 3.00 -21 front tire and a 4.60 -18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Drum in the front and a Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a Telescopic fork, Showa 36 mm, air/oil damped while the rear was equipped with a Swingarm, dual shocks, coil springs, adjustable springload and compression damping. The wheelbase was 57.52 inches (1461 mm) long.
1981 - 1983 Suzuki SP 500[edit | edit source]
For 1981 there was an entirely new engine, the single remnant of the old being the bore staying at 88mm, with the stroke now growing to 82mm for a grand total of 498cc. According to Suzuki’s official Identification Guide 1970-1990, the SP 500 and DR 500 both ended in 1983, and then the SP 600 appeared in 1985 as a one-year model, after which the SP designation vanished.
