OverviewEdit
Derbi Mulhacén Café 659 Angel Nieto Limited Edition
All the sports character of
the mythical Red BulletWith its long
association with the world of competitive racing, Derbi pays homage to the
legendary racing tradition of its Red Bullets, winners of 10 World
Championships in the 50cc, 80cc and 125 cc categories. With this in mind,
Derbi have dedicated this new Euro3 version of the Mulhacén Café 659 to the
12+1 World Champion Angel Nieto, the man who contributed the most to make
the Derbi brand famous in the racing world.
The distinctive characteristics of this special edition include a fire red lower section with a black horizontal band extending the entire length of the motorcycle in pure Seventies racing style. There is no doubt about the racing character of this new Derbi. The new street sports tires, the 17-inch alloy rims, the impressive 320 mm rear brake with Brembo radial caliper and the backlit digital instrument panel are the proof of the attention with which this new model was planned and created.
The Mulhacén Café 659 is the answer to enthusiasts who were crying out for a street version of the Mulhacén.
Based on the scrambler, the Mulhacén Café retains the distinctive characteristics that made the scrambler so great: the robust and reliable Yamaha-Minarelli single-cylinder four-valve 659-cc engine (Euro 3 compliant), steel tube frame with aluminum swingarm and the refined progressive linkage on which the original adjustable lateral mono shock absorber operates The ergonomics of the motorcycle have been carefully reworked for the street, and now offer a more comfortable ride for both driver and passenger making it also suitable for long distance riding.
The new Mulhacén Café 659 Angel Nieto be available on the market as a limited edition.
Despite the way it looks, the Mulhacén Café 659 Ángel Nieto LE has actually been developed as a middleweight sportsbike, hence bits like the 17-inch wheels (shod with 110mm (front) and 150mm (rear) Pirelli Diablo tires), 43mm USD Marzocchi fork, fully adjustable ZF Sachs monoshock and high-spec Brembo brakes with radial-mount callipers at the front.
The engine is a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, SOHC, four-valve, 659.7cc single-cylinder unit thats built by Yamaha-Minarelli. It isnt hugely powerful theres 47bhp and 55Nm of torque on tap but its enough to propel the 170-kilo bike at an adequately brisk pace. Indeed, the Mulhacén Café goes from zero to 100km/h in 6.44 seconds, does the standing kilometre in 29.6 seconds and hits a top speed of 167km/h. Of course, as you might expect, the single-cylinder engines vibrates a fair bit at higher speeds
The Mulhacén feels equally at home doodling along in urban traffic as well as slicing through twisting, winding country roads, where its amazing torque delivery at low revs makes it extremely manoeuvrable. Thanks to its electronic fuel injection, fuel consumption is always low, even at higher speeds and with a pillion passenger. The bikes ergonomics have been carefully designed and with its soft-ish suspension, this is a comfortable machine for long-distance riding. The removable seat cowl, engraved with a logo celebrating the brand's 85 years of history, means the bike can be transformed from a single-seater into a two-seater when required.
The Mulhacén Café Angel Nieto Limited Edition is now available through Derbis European dealerships and for all those racing enthusiasts who might want to buy a chunk of history albeit one that benefits from modern-day motorcycle technology you had better place your orders right away, since only 50 of these gems will ever be made.
