The BMW R 80 ST was a air-cooled, four-stroke, boxer twin cylinder, 2 valves per cylidner Naked motorcycle produced by BMW between 1982 and 1984. It could reach a top speed of 107 mph (172 km/h). Max torque was 42.78 ft/lbs (58.0 Nm) @ 5000 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 50.02 HP (37.3 KW) @ 6500 RPM.

Engine[edit | edit source]

The engine was a air cooled air-cooled, four-stroke, boxer twin cylinder, 2 valves per cylidner. A 83.8mm bore x 83.8mm stroke result in a displacement of just 797.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a overhead valves (ohv).

Drive[edit | edit source]

The bike has a 5-speed, manual transmission. Power was moderated via the dry, single plate, diaphragm spring.

Chassis[edit | edit source]

It came with a 100/90-H19 front tire and a 120/90-H18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single 285mm disc, 1-piston caliper in the front and a 200mm drum in the rear. The front suspension was a telescopic fork while the rear was equipped with a Monolever. The R 80 ST was fitted with a 1.32 Gallon (5.00 Liters) fuel tank. The wheelbase was 56.89 inches (1445 mm) long.

1982 BMW R 80 ST[edit | edit source]

The 1982 MY BMW R 80 ST addresses those riders who want a solid road under their wheels, and is loosely-based on the successful GS, but with minor tweaks and a few other parts that make it a better road bike then the all-road version ever could ever dream of being. It has been fitted with a more comfortable dual seat, new wheels and tires, shorter forks and rear shock, more instrumentation, lower handlebars and a set of crash guards.

In the engine department it sports an air-cooled, four-stroke, 797cc, boxer twin cylinder powerplant paired to a five-speed manual transmission that can produce a claimed 50 horsepower and 58 Nm of torque.
