Introduced in 1948 and capable of 70 hp, Black Lightning was the most legendary motorcycle of its time, being advertised as "the World's Fastest Standard Motorcycle". During 1949-1952 around thirty Vincent Black Lightnings were built and they were available only on special order. His sister, Black Shadow, was a little fatter, but the Black Lightning was, at that time, only 380 lb weight. This bike had higher lift cams, stronger connecting rods, bigger inlet ports, polished rocker gear, steel idler gears, racing carburetors, a manual-advance magneto.
