Overview[edit | edit source]

Hero HX 250R

Indian manufacturer Hero MotoCorp revealed a new 249cc sportbike developed with the help of Erik Buell Racing. Hero is calling the HX250R for now, though the name may change before it enters production in the second half of the year. Whatever the name, the HX250R will be Hero’s flagship model and the company’s weapon against former business partner Honda and its CBR250R. The HX250R will also be a sure bet to be one of the models Hero will import to the U.S. through its distribution deal with EBR.

The Hero HX250R is powered by a fuel-injected 249cc Single with an 81.0 mm bore and 48.5 mm stroke, making it a larger piston but a shorter stroke than the CBR250R. Torque figures were not released but Hero claims a peak output of 31 hp at 9000 rpm, giving it a couple more horses on the CBR250R. The curb weight is said to be 306 pounds, which is 53 pounds lighter than the Honda’s claimed curb weight.

Suspension consists of a 37mm telescopic fork and five-step preload-adjustable rear shock. The HX250R is equipped with a combined braking system with optional ABS. A three-piston caliper grips the 300mm front disc while a linked caliper stops the 220mm rear disc. The 17-inch alloy wheels are equipped with a 110/80R-17 tire up front and a 140/70R-17 tire at the back.

Other features include a six-speed transmission, LED brake light and turn signals, twin halogen-bulb headlights and a 3.4-gallon fuel tank.
