Maico named its road bike range after winds and the Blizzard was a conventional two-stroke 250cc unit built in the mid-1950s, offered in both road going, with full weather and lighting equipment, and stripped motocross versions. Notable features of the Blizzard included hydraulic shock absorbers, a softly-sprung frame, swing arm, enclosed chain case and a directly illuminated speedometer. With a top speed of 72 mph, the Blizzard was a strong performer, with excellent acceleration and hill climbing ability and it survived in production from 1955 until 1962. Today Maico motorcycles enjoy a loyal following around the world and certain models are now sought after by collectors, while owners are well supported by various clubs, including one in the UK.
