Overview[edit | edit source]

SYM Tonik 50

Taiwanese Sym offers a 50cc version of its small city scooter, named the Tonik. Apart from the engine, the Tonik 50 and 125 differs in its specific decor, which features retro designs on fairings.

Without seeming to copy (as some do), the Sym Tonik 50 displays lines that are reminiscent of those famous Vespa 60s. But then the significant difference compared to Vespa is that the body panels are not metal but plastic ... and there is no spare wheel!

The Tonik 50 is built around a tubular steel chassis and fitted with a telescopic fork and rear monoshock. The wheels are 10 inches whilst nowadays 12 is most often used.

Despite its compact dimensions, the Tonik offers a true dual seat and even a glove that does not obstruct the driver's knees (up to 1.80m).

The Sym Tonik has fitted a 4 stroke 49.5 cm3, developing 2.3 kilowatts at 7500 rev / min (or 3.13 hp). The Tonik 50 is fun to drive thanks to its chassis, agility and pretty cool driving position. The Tonik is not really disadvantged by the choice of 10" wheels.

Its handling in roundabouts and large curves is certainly not that of a scooter equipped with 12 wheels, but given its style and his driving position, it is not that we askedit was doing well.

Investing in a Tonik is doing so its nice look and useful features. The flat floor reveals spacious and practical. Passengers will appreciate the Tonik's aluminum and the chrome handrail.

Arrived at your destination, you have the choice between a central and a side stand. In both cases, the operation is performed without problem. Unlike many scooters, the fuel filler cap it is not under the seat but in the front apron of the Tonik. The 5.8 liter tank has a range of more than 150 km.

No doubt there are more efficient and comfortable machines, but it will cost more. And Tonik has an appreciable advantage these days: it consumes very little.
