Stanley Kubrick's 1954 film, starring Marlon Brando, was supposedly a dramatization of the events of 1947 in Hollister, California, which reinforced the bad boy biker image in the minds of the general public. The film was actually banned for a time, until 1970 in England, but the image stuck. It really didn't matter to most people that Brando rode a Triumph - in the eyes of the bikers, Ice Marvin's rival gang all rode chopped Harleys, so it followed that they must he the real outlaw bikes.
