The bike has a 3 or 4-Speed transmission.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 2.75-16R front tire and a 2.75-16R rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Drum in the front and a Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a Telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a Roller with spring legs. The wheelbase was 47.6 inches (1209 mm) long.
1980 - 1988 Simson S 51[edit | edit source]
The production of the S51 was started in 1980. The most noticeable changes were the use of a completely redesigned, compact engine with a wide range of technical innovations and great variability. With this state-of-the-art 3-horsepower engine with 3- or 4-speed gearbox, A 10% reduction in fuel consumption is achieved, and the noise and exhaust emission limit values according to ECE are still undercut. Further essential details were a plate spring clutch as well as a completely new kickstarter device.
