The Husqvarna SM 450 R was a liquid cooled, four stroke, single cylinder, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder Enduro motorcycle produced by Husqvarna between 2003 and 2011.

Engine[edit | edit source]

The engine was a liquid cooled liquid cooled, four stroke, single cylinder, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder. A 96.5mm bore x 96.5mm stroke result in a displacement of just 449.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin cam (dohc).

Drive[edit | edit source]

The bike has a 6-speed, manual transmission. Power was moderated via the wet multi-disc, manual.

Chassis[edit | edit source]

It came with a 120/70 -17 front tire and a 150/60 -17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single 320 mm disc, 4-piston caliper in the front and a single 220 mm disc, 1-piston caliper in the rear. The front suspension was a 50mm Marzocchi upside down fork while the rear was equipped with a Sachs porgressive monoshock. The SM 450 R was fitted with a 2.43 Gallon (9.20 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 262.79 pounds (119.2 Kg). The wheelbase was 58.86 inches (1495 mm) long.

The 2004 MY Husqvarna SM 450 R comes with a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 449cc, single cylinder powerplant mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It has been designed to commemorate the successes of the Husqvarna racing department in the previous year, and has been produced in a limited number of units. In addition, it has a race-derived upside-down telescopic front fork and a progressive Soft Damp rear monoshock, which not only make for a more comfortable machine, but also significantly increase its cornering abilities.

It features a high-end suspension system, composed of a 45mm Marzocchi upside-down telescopic fork, and a Sachs progressive monoshock rear unit, which ensure increased agility and superior off-road capabilities.

It can be used both on the road and off it, thanks to the standard wire-spoked wheels, as well as the high-end Brembo braking system, which increase its performance and makes for a safer ride.

The 2007 MY Husqvarna SM 450 R can be used both on paved roads, and fitted with proper tires, off-the road, whether on gravel or dirt tracks, thanks to standard features such as wire-spoked wheels, a lightweight build, leading to a dry weight of only 122 kg, and a race-inspired suspension package, composed of a 45 mm Marzocchi upside-down telescopic fork and a Sachs rear monoshock.

At its heart lies a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 449cc, single cylinder, engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. In addition, it is also a safe bake, thanks to the Brembo front and rear brakes.

The 2008 MY Husqvarna SM 450 R has a more performance-oriented front suspension package, as opposed to its previous embodiment, represented by a 50mm Marzocchi upside-down telescopic hydraulic fork, with a more generous, 250 mm of wheel travel. In addition, the rear suspension unit has a "soft damp" function, as well as a more generous wheel travel of 290 mm, which not only make for a more plush ride, but also an agiler one and increases the difficulty of off-road tracks it can successfully tackle.

They have replaced the old-school carburetor with a modern, Mikuni D42 electronic injection system, which not only boosts its performance, but also makes for a more environment-friendly machine.
