Overview[edit | edit source]

Kawasaki Z 400 Special

Some years are fat. Other years, the dollar bills seem to float past just out of reach. It would be nice if we could just avoid needing anything during the thin years, but people aren't built like that. The Kawasaki have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too motorcycle is the KZ400 Special. It is basically the KZ400, with the same redesigned engine and longer-travel suspension and styling.

But to chop a big slice out of the price, Kawasaki has left off the nonessentials. The KZ400 Special has a drum brake on the front wheel, kickstarter starting, and a 5-speed transmission. It has no tachometer or centerstand. Result: you get the go-anywhere street bike for an incredibly low price. For commuting, weekend trips, and just gettin' around, the KZ400 Special is a delight to ride. It's got enough power; it's got responsive steering; and it gives you a comfortable ride. If your budget is stretched until all the give is gone, but you want two-wheel transportation that'll transport you in style, check out the KZ400 Special.
