The Kawasaki ZXR 250 is a 249 cc in-line four cylinder four-stroke sports motorcycle produced by the motorcycle division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries conglomerate. Introduced in 1988, with a minor update for the 1990 model year, and a considerable redesign for 1991, after which the ZXR250 received only colour scheme changes until production ceased in 1999. Like the Honda CBR250R/CBR250RR, Yamaha FZR250RR and Suzuki GSX-R250, the ZXR250 is noted for advanced, almost excessive, engineering and design.

There seems to be some discrepancies about the actual power that the ZXR250 makes, though the factory Kawasaki catalog claims 45hp, in some restricted models around the world 39hp is correct. In this versions speedometer reads up to 180 km/h only. The model produced/manufactured in Malaysia had a different stroke and top speed of 240 km/h as it wasn't built to the same specs as the previous models.
Similar machines
All four of the major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers produced a sporty, high-revving, 4-cylinder, 4-stroke 250cc motorcycle capable of producing up to 45 hp (34 kW). They are the Honda CBR250, Kawasaki ZXR250, Suzuki GSX-R250 and the Yamaha FZR250. With limited exceptions, these bikes were generally only officially available in Japan. However they (particularly the CBR250 and ZXR250) were available in the rest of the world as grey market imports.
