A 60.0mm bore x 44.0mm stroke result in a displacement of just 124.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin cam (dohc).

The bike has a 6-speed transmission. The final drive was via chain.

It came with a 90/90-21 front tire and a 120/80-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single disc in the front and a single disc in the rear. The front suspension was a telescopic fork while the rear was equiped with a single shock. The 125 SX was fitted with a 3.3 Gallon (12.50 Liters) fuel tank. The 2002 MY MZ 125 SX is a machine designed by the German engineers for novice off-road enthusiasts, as well as more experienced one that want a more agile machine. At its heart lies a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 124cc, single cylinder powerplant paired to a four-speed manual transmission, and can produce a claimed 15 horsepower and 11 Nm of torque.
Standard features include laced wheels, a high-end suspension package, composed of a Marzocchi upside-down fork and a WP adjustable monoshock in the rear, a braking system with front and rear disc brakes and a large, 21" front wheel.
