The Yamaha XZ550S was a V-twin, four-stroke sportbike motorcycle produced by Yamaha between 1982 and 1983. It offered innovative technology in its motor and bold (too bold according to some) styling. It could reach a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). Max torque was 36.88 ft/lbs (50.0 Nm) @ 8500 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 62.63 HP (46.7 KW) @ 9500 RPM.
History
Early production models were flawed with poor braking and carburetion glitches. Three slightly different models were produced: the European model, with dual front braking discs, the 1982 US model (RJ), with a single disc and the 1983 US model (RK), with dual discs and a fairing. The models also use different sparkplugs and front forks.
