The engine was a air cooled single cylinder, four-stroke. Fuel was supplied via a single overhead cams (sohc).

The bike has a 5-speed transmission.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 90/90-19 front tire and a 130/70-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single disc in the front and a expanding brake (drum brake) in the rear. The front suspension was a telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a twin shocks with adjustable pre-load. The Scrambler 400 was fitted with a 3.43 Gallon (13.00 Liters) fuel tank.
